Zulynette creates portals into other dimensions. A Chicago native who was raised in Hartford, CT, her artwork and poetry are visceral, taking the viewer and listeners on a journey through the artists’ personal life experiences and political stance, she is a creative change agent. She creates because she must; art and poetry are a way for her to analyze, describe, express, heal and educate. Her art communicates a narrative rooted in realness allowing viewers and listeners to conceptualize their own narrative and connect in a genuine, raw and powerful way.
Zulynette was the first Hartford Iron Poet and is on the coordinating team, which hosts an annual poetry competition at the International Trinity Hip-Hop Festival. Iron Poets also coordinates and hosts free poetry workshops throughout the community of Hartford. She facilitates creative workshops that have included painting, collage-making, and poetry. She hopes that her art and poetry continues to inspire others and stoke the fires within them, especially youth.
Having earned her Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Community Organizing and having worked for years in research, Zulynette has made a deliberate choice to be a creative change agent incorporating her academic background, but mainly utilizing her creative faculty. She has chosen to dedicate her life to her art. Her ultimate goal? World domination.
